THE CATEGORIZATION OF ALL SKI PISTES IN BULGARIA STARTS NOW
Dnevnik Daily, Miroslav Ivanov, 25.04.2005
All of the owners and concessionaires of ski pistes have to transform them according to the regulations of the new legislation for categorization in a period of six months. The legal act is already in Darjaven vestnik. This is the period in which they have to give in the application for categorization of the ski pistes. The procedure is open after the submitting of the application to the Minister of Culture through the Agency of tourism.

The determination of the category of a ski piste will be done in a 3 month period from the day of the opening of the procedure. Firstly the expert commission for the categorization of tourism sites from the Tourism agency offers it to the minister of culture and tourism, and than he/ she signs it. The number of representatives of the organizations in the branch in the commission has to be equal. A usual majority of the attending representatives takes the decision for the creation of working groups for inspection of the ski pistes. They have to check whether the pistes cover the minimum requirements according to the legislation. All pistes for alpine ski, snow board and ski runs have to be categorized. They can be individual or organized in a ski zone with certain borders, which can embrace pistes with various difficulty and function. Traces and wire lifts, ski roads and routes which are connecting the pistes with the sites for carrying the tourists have to cover minimum requirements for safety, information safety, difficulty, access to the mountain site and the tourism services which are offered. The ski pistes are categorized in three categories: green (for beginners), blue (light piste) and red (medium or difficult- black). The category is permanent.

The summer exploitation also has minimum obligatory requirements for the safety of ski pistes. Activities connected with the cultivation of the terrains: grass planting, construction of draining system, anti erosion activities, removal of stones, rocks, logs, wholes, edges and other rough places caused by the erosion and floods.
