Bansko records incredibly high season 2004- 2005. 400 000 tourists have visited the resort and this number is almost doubled as it was the previous season. The high tourism flow and the perspectives for the development of the resort were commented by the head of the Tourism Council in Bansko Ianka Rahova, the mayor of the municipal Alexander Kravarov and the director of the ski zone Ivan Obreikov.
Alexander Kravarov: We welcomed more tourists and we are going to invest 9 more million for the reconstruction of streets and new roads.
The past season is completely different from the previous one. Firstly- several new hotels were opened, which increased the number of beds in the resort and this made it possible to host 400 000 tourist compared to the 250 000 from the previous season. The second prerequisite which attracted twice as much tourists are the improvements in the ski zone. New ski pistes were opened from Jelezen most to Banderishka polyana, new lifts as well. The shooting ground on the biathlon tracks was completed.
For the incoming season 2005- 2006
Our goal is to renovate the piste on Cerna Mogila with all of the necessary equipment.
The concessionaire of the ski center- Ulen Joint stock company, this summer will work on the cultivation of all of the pistes, according the requirements of the ministry of environment and waters. The number of beds in the hotels will become more than 6000. The number of tourist will be even higher, because one should have in mind the so called vacation apartments which were sold. In the town the major works will be for the improvement of the infrastructure.
The main streets have to be paved again.
The streets with heavy traffic will be repaired- “Glazne”,”Bulgaria”, “Patriarh Evtimii”, “Otets Paisii”, “Drama” and “Tsar Boris”. The street from the starting lift station to the Strajite hotel will be covered with new asphalt and will have three roadways. A 6 kilometer ring road will be also constricted, which has to reduce the traffic in Bansko. The municipal also made agreements with Ulen concessionaire for the supply of mini- buses which will carry the local people and the guests of Bansko for free during the high periods around Christmas, New Year, and Student’s holiday. This would cause a rise of the price for the lift card with one BGN. A new bridge on Glazne River in the region of the starting lift station is another precaution for the problems with traffic in Bansko. Part of the investments for this project and for the ring road will be taken from all of the businessmen in the town. Each of them will give 2 BGN per square meter of the total built- up area in their construction site. The municipal has 9 million BGN for the recovery of the infrastructure of the town and for quittance for the owners of lands. The municipal also relies on investments through different programs.
The ski zone will be enlarged in the region of Cerna mogila and Banderishka polyana.
The municipal council of Bansko did not accept the proposal of Ulen for the construction of new pistes in the region of Damianishki Dial. We expect to start a new cabin lift from Bansko to the ski pistes for the next season. Almost 10 kilometers will be the new pistes and the equipment for the new 2005- 2006 season.
Ianka Rahova: the fears that we won’t be able to fill the hotels are useless. At the beginning of this season we were worried that we won’t be able to fill the holes. It turned out that all that fuss was in vane. During the high periods the beds were still not enough and this is an index for a positive growth.
