Hours Before IOC Desision
“I feel as if we have already entered the second tour.”- Stefka Kostadinova said.
The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov and the public prosecutor Boris Velchev wished good luck to the delegation, which headed for Lausanne, Switzerland yesterday. Today, at 2.00 pm Eastern European time the president of the International Olympic Committee Jack Rogge will announce who will proceed to to the second phase of the Winter Olympics 2014 host selection process.
The delegation includes Bulgarian Olympic Committee president Stefka Kostadinova, State Agency for Youth and Sports president Vesela Letcheva, Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov and head of the State Agency for Tourism Mario Al-Djebouri. The Bulgarian candidature ambassadors world skating champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Stavinski, the owner of three medals from Winter Olympic Games Evgenia Radanova, and Bulgarian’s best alpine skier Peter Popangelov did leave for Lozana as well.
“Thank you for supporting our goal- Sofia, being a host for 2014 Olympics. I think that we are no way inferior to the cities, which have already hosted winter Olympic Games. I don’t doubt that we will succeed. I feel as if we have already entered the second tour”, Stefka Kostadinova said.
“I have always been optimistic regarding our candidature. We have repeatedly proved, that we can compete with the best of sport people and also win”, Vesela Lecheva stated.
“Sofia is a worthy candidate and can win. We are a good team- Olympic, world and European champions, and I hope we will continue to the next phase. When we enter the second tour, we will have to do a lot of work. First of all a winter Olympics act should be passed”, Boiko Borisov announced.
If Bulgaria really proceeds to the second tour, a new inquiry list with 250 questions should be filled and presented till January, 2007. The final candidature presentation will be at IOC session in Guatemala in July, 2007.
