BANSKO HOSTED ALPINE SKI CUP WOMEN

The winter resort Bansko, Southwestern Bulgaria, hosted a downhill event for the Alpine Ski Cup Women. The winner is Swiss Fabienne Suter, who clocked 1:46.68 min., almost one second faster than the next in the rankings – Andrea Fischbacher of Austria.
The leader in the World Cup interim rankings Lindsey Vonn (USA) and Italian Nadia Fanchini finished third clocking identical times: 1:46.92 min.
Bulgarian Maria Kirkova finished last, 8.76 sec. after the winner. The second downhill is on Saturday and the Super G is on Sunday. The downhill in Bansko was the first World Cup event held in Bulgaria after a break of 25 years.
The track on Banderitsa ski-run is 2707 m long with 800 m difference in altitude between the start and the finish. Its organization of the event proves Bulgaria’s potential to host world-class skiing events.
