SNOW, SUN, SNOWMEN AND DANCES IN BOROVETS FOR THE WINTER SEASON 2008
Georgi Georgiev
Snow, Sun, Snowmen and Dances in Borovets for the Winter Season 2008

The oldest and probably the most attractive Bulgarian winter resort, Borovets, met the new ski season 2008 with a lot of snow, sun, high spirits and perfect ski conditions.

On the 23th of December 2007 Borovets officially opened winter season 2008. At 12 o’clock the famous TV showmen Ivan and Andrei welcomed the guest of the resort, who were about 5 000 people, with their typically captivating cense of humor. An exhibition of the hotels and restaurants in Borovets, where the guest could taste the local specialties and to learn more about the services in the resort, was arranged next to the stage.

The show program started with the performance of the young singers from “Bon Bon” musical formation who sang Christmas songs specially for the youngest guests of Borovets. Meanwhile Santa Claus with two of his dwarfs, dressed in golden suits, amused the audience.

The great surprise of the event was the snowmen carving competition. Many amateur sculptures took part in the contest and the president of the jury Radoslav Simeonov, who is a lecturer in the National Art Academy found difficulties to determine the winners. Finally the awards were given in tree categories: the most modern snowman, the most bohemian snowman and for the most united team. The most modern snowman was shaped in a cubic style and the bohemian one was with a pipe in his mouth, dark glasses and a signal jacket. The most united team had made a skier snowman.

The Hip Hop performers Rumanetsa and Enchev entertained the audience while the sculptures were making their masterpieces. The singers and their ballet definitely rose the spirits performing some of their greatest hits. Santa Claus and his dwarfs could not resist on charming dancers and they hopped on the stage too. Their act made Rumanetsa and Enchev to pass a jocular remark to the good old man and his assistants about their frivolous behavior.

The show program was accomplished by a lottery with many prises and the dances of the famous Samokov’s cheer girl’s ensemble and a break formation from Samokov.

In the meantime the pistes were full of people, the ski and snowboard instructors were passing their skills to the first tourist for the new season, while the advanced winter sports lovers had a real good time rushing on the slopes, which are wider and better maintained this year.
