We have been to Borovets twice both times we have stayed at the hotel Ela. Staff really friendly and helpful. This year rooms have been upgraded to a good standard. We have booked again for 2009 and will be staying at the hotel Ela. Friends of ours came to Borovets and stayed in a differant hotel than us, but for 2009 they are going to be staying at the hotel Ela as they found it to be very welcoming and loved the atmosphere. If the food could be improved the hotel could be classed as four star not three. We are all looking forward to our next visit.

August 2007 we stayed at Hotel Rila. The hot food options were of a poor standard and the choice for none meat eaters extremely limited. The problem was raised with the travel rep' and we even spoke to the restaurant manager who promised to sort it out but did nothing. Other than that the hotel was fine.

Have just come back from the Hotel Rila. Must admit was rather comcerned about it after reading some revues however we really enjoyed it. We are a family of 4. 2 Children aged 12 & 14. Food at the hotel was great fresh pancakes at breakfast and pizza at night, salad, the meat was lean (now I'm really fussy about meat) potatoes and lots more. The sweet's are to die for. Have a very fussy eater and she was very happy with the food. The rooms were lovely and clean. Would def go again next year. Swimming pool lovely and you don't have to take your own towels as they are provided. Trip to Sofia on the last day was great and we went straight to the airport after it.

The Flora hotell was ok . Food was shocking in moast restaraunts .bit crowed on slopes . the skee lifts had very long cues , could wait up to an hour and a half in the cue to get on yhe gondola wich was dissapointing , but generally good value for money all round , really enjoyed the holiday , Austria is much more organised so for the ultimate skeeing experience go there .

Went to the Ela Hotel from 13-20 January 2007. The hotel was okay: friendly staff, clean enough. Rooms on the 4th floor are smaller (because of the roof). Elevator little bit noisy. Rooms aren't noise isolated, so depends on the neighbour's room :-) The food was not excellent (would never pay for this if it were a restaurant). In the morning there's plenty of bread and toast, English style (sausages, eggs, ...), cornflakes and yoghourt. They havr a really good Nescafй machine so you can make you own special style coffee/hot chocolate :-) In the evening there's different kind of meals. Fairly good salad bar (for vitamins you know). Warm food wasn't always very warm, good they have a microwave oven to heat the stuff! Pasta is NOT a recommender here. Looks really white, tastes like plastic. The dessert was some kind of pastry/bakery of a piece of fruit. Be quick with the dessert because some people have the enoying habbit to already take the dessert when they've only just started their meal. The bar/lobby is quite fun in the evening, friendly staff too. Good cocktails. Warm fireplace. A lot of smoking there though, so not very healthy for the non smokers... Music sometimes too loud for a hotel lobby. You can play darts (1 lev per person / game) and there's a pool table (5 lev / hour).

Arrived back in UK yesterday. Had a wonderful week at the Samokov. Had read other people's comments and was a bit concerned about what to expect. Was pleasantly surprised. The communal areas in the hotel are very nice. The bedrooms were spacious, view from the balcony was breathtaking. Ski school at the Samokov was first class. The kids and my partner were in a more advanced group than I and had an amazing time with their instructor George. My instructor Lewbo seemed a bit stern at first but my group soon warmed to him and we were all sad to leave. Food at the hotel was basic but wholesome. Always plenty of choice and my 14 year old, who is fussy, never went hungry which is a good sign. Only negative was the amount of erotic bars in the resort and the lack of snow! The other downside is the Bulgarian people who only seem to smile when they are trying to get you into one of the restaurants or bars. However. by the end of the week my beginner group was able to ski and by the end of the week I was an intermediate skier. We went with another family and there were 8 of us in total. It was their third time in the Samokov and our first. My partner has skied in Austria and France and much preferred the atmosphere and scenic runs in Borovets to Val d'isere. We all loved it so much we are booking up in a couple of weeks to go back next year. Would also recommend the spa in the hotel where I got the most fantastic full body massage for Ј12. Borovets 2008 here we come!!!!

Went to Borovets in beginning of January 2006 and it is the best holiday ever!!!!! As a first time skier I had many worries! Stayed at the Bor Hotel which i found very clean and comfortable, service was fab and the reception bar stayed open until we couldnt drink anymore!! I would definately reccommend this friendly hotel and tried to book it again for the next coming season only to find its fully booked! The ski school is fantastic with very patient and friendly instructors, all of whom speak excellent english. Expect to fall over many times and you will be fine! by the end of the week our whole group were trying out some of the more challenging slopes and looked like pro's by the end of it!! Nightlife is also fab especially Buzz bar with its slightly dodgy hardcore dance music but very cheap and a good laugh. Only small thing to beware of is small children that hang around trying to catch tourists slightly worse for wear, they are harmless but do beg for money and try to trip you up if you dont oblige!!! Although most hotels are half board, try to venture out to restaurants as they are very cheap and cater for everyones taste. Borovets is a lovely place and the people are so friendly and I cant wait to go back in Jan 07'. Try to ignore negative reviews as I can personally assure you its fantastic and once you visit you will want to go back.
