2 firms vie for Rakitovo tourist development

The Rakitovo municipality, in the Rhodope mountains, is being courted by 2 companies for the creation of a joint venture to build a tourism center.
Locally-owned Bulstartinvestment has proposed to invest 30 mln levs in a gondola lift linking Rakitovo and the Kachakov Chark area, 2 ski-tows and ski runs starting from the Golyama Styuka peak.
California-registered North American-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce said it was ready to pour 300 mln euro into a year-round resort with skiing, golfing, tennis and bowling facilities and a bed capacity of 15,000 to 25,000.
The municipal councillors have asked the 2 investors to present references and to certify their financial stability and prior expertise at a meeting of the council in August.
