Major Investors to Sponsor Alpine Tourism Legislation Penning a bill on mountain tourism, regulating the sustainable development of Bulgaria's alpine resources will be one of the first initiatives of an association set up by the owners of skiing infrastructure and investors with skiing resort projects. The association includes all companies with major investment projects in Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo and Vitosha as well as the owners of investment projects in Perelik, Berkovitsa, Dobrinishte, Panichishte and Razlog. The goal is to ensure environment-friendly development in line with the requirements for sustainable tourism,' said Tihomir Trendafilov, chairman of the board of Rila Sport, the company developing the Panichishte project. Almost all founders of the association intend to invest heavily in new skiing facilities and hotel beds over the mid-term, plans that are facing serious pushback from a number of environmentalist organisations. According to the investors, Bulgaria has too few ski runs to adequately compete with rival destinations elsewhere in Europe.
