Motor Sleighs Replace Off-roaders in the Rhodopes
A new ski run connects Pamporovo and Chepelare
During the winter, tourists will be transported from the ski resort of Chepelare to Pamporovo by motor sleighs instead of off-roaders. To this end, a 15-km-long ski run was built, which is the latest tourist lure in the Rhodopes, said president of Hotelkeepers and Restaurateurs Association in Smolyan, Subi Madankov. The ski run's first station is in Pamporovo, the terminal is the draglift at Mechi Chal locality above the Chepelare resort. Fans of extreme sports will be able to hire five motor sleighs. The charge hasn't been fixed yet but it will be affordable, Madankov added. Before the start of the season, new cross-country and biathlon runs were completed. Thus the total length of ski runs in the region of Chepelare will be 28 km. Skiers will be able to have a break and refreshment in four new folk-style restaurants. Apart from them, five new hotels will open doors this winter. The accommodation capacity of the local resorts runs at 1500 beds. Officially the ski season in Chepelare starts December 15. The official inaugural day in Bansko and Borovets will be celebrated on December 17.
