SKI PROJECTS IN CHEPELARE

The Municipality of Chepelare is working on a huge project for the development of ski-area 'Mechi Chal' near the town. That was announced by Todor Bozukov, the mayor on the opening of the new season 2002/2003 on 13 Dec 2002. The total amount needed for this project is 11 mln. EURO, which will be provided by the funds of the European Union as well as other private investors.
The project is for building of 4 new lifts and drags as well as modernizing of the existing 2-chair lift. By these new facilities the ski are of Chepelare will be connected with the ski area of the bigger resorts around Pamporovo. The new drags lifts will be more than 2 km long, and the ski pistes will be 25 km long in total. Even now Chepelare has the longest ski piste in Bulgaria, that has been approved by the International Ski Federation.
