Foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria spend two times less than they do in other European countries, British tourism representatives said. A total of 3,531 million foreign tourists visited Bulgaria in 2003 and they have spent some USD 1,5 B.

According to the British officials, foreign tourists spend less money in Bulgaria, as they don't have opportunities to spend more. It was recommended that Bulgaria's hospitality industry offer additional services such as balneology, bird watching or shopping tours to the foreign guests.

At a press conference that took place in Sofia it was revealed that Bulgaria has enjoyed significant public interest since the 1980s. It was recommended that the hotel staff undergo special training programs and that more sources are invested in marketing and advertising.
