The Wildflower Festival in Smolyan is a part of thematically related events across Europe that aim to promote the floral diversity of Europe via a variety of cultural, educational and tourism initiatives, part of Wildflower Europe project.
Festival visitors will have the opportunity to participate in preparing traditional food products and dishes, to learn how to embroider traditional Rhodope slippers, to find out more about traditional for the region technologies for making dairy products and to buy locally grown produce and locally made food directly from producers during the bazaar of Rhodope Green Foods. The series of workshops in traditional music, singing and dancing will add to the colorful experience of visitors to the Festival.
The Rhodopes are the richest of endemic plants (species found only in a limited area) floristic region of the country, with about 200 species of Bulgarian and Balkan endemic species, many of which are protected by law.
