%LIMG1Pamporovo to widen opportunities for winter tourism “The pearl in the heart of The Rodope Mountain“or “The sunniest winter resort in Bulgaria” – are the most common phrases that describe Pamporovo mountain resort. Huddled at the foot of the Rodope Mountain, under Snejanka peak, the resort provides fantastic views towards the Aegean Sea. The resort attracts many English, Irish, Dutch, German and Greek tourists, especially by the end of the active winter season, when the days are sunny. The ski slopes in the resort are perfectly maintained throughout the whole season. The capacity of the lifts in the resort is 8600 persons per hour. The total length of the ski slopes in Pamporovo is 55 km. Over 10 million BGN were invested in the improvement of the ski zone of the resort for the past three years. The resort also offers a 150 m long and 3 m high half – pipe, which provides great conditions for snowboarding. Pamporovo now plans to extend the ski zone of the resort towards the Stoykite village, just several kilometres south of the resort. During the past year a project for the construction of a six seat chair lift was developed and already has an approved eco assessment. The new lift will service two brand new ski slopes with a total length of 6 km, which will be build this year. The main goal of the project is to connect the ski zones of Chepelare, Pamporovo and Perelik ski resorts. The majour stockholders of “Pamporovo” Joint Stock Company plan to invest in a brand new holiday village in Stoykite site. The Rodope Mountains possesses excellent natural recourses for the development of winter tourism.
