Ice Angels Hotel 

I arrived back from 1 week in hotel Ice angels borovets. The hotel could not be any nearer to the slopes /ski hire/ pubs and restaurants. The hotel is very clean, modern and always really warm. From our room we could watch people sking which was excellent, especially the night sking with floodlit slopes. Value for money and would definately go again. Even better it snowed heavily at beginning of week so able to ski all day every day. Excellent holiday!

First the positives. Good location for the Sitnyakovo Ski area (although much better skiing is to be had at the higher level Markudjik area accessible by Gondola). Rooms and common areas clean and well presented, perhaps not to the four star rating. English speaking TV limited to just Eurosport and Sky News. Internet working most of the time. The negatives. The restaurant - which could best be described as mediocre. Both service and food poor. Christmas and New Year meals particularly disappointing. After conversations with many other visitors to Borovets we understood that this problem is not specific to this hotel and indeed others are worse still. Most hotels insist on HB arrangements, so if you want to try the better indepedent restaurants (like the Mexican) then you pay twice or the privilage. When we asked for room service the waiter wanted a tip in advance and the food still didn't arrive. Language was an issue as English was only properly understood by the manager, not by the receptionists. When checking out, there was an attempt to charge again for certain items paid for in cash during the stay, although the mistakes were rectified when challenged. No coffee / tea making facilities in the rooms. All in all we would not revisit the Bugarian Ski Resorts as they do not represent value for money - atleast to the independent traveller. Star ratings shown flatter the standards on offer.

Stayed at Ice Angels from 1/3/08 for one week. We have been to Pamporovo, Bulgaria for the last 3 years so we thought we would try somewhere different so booked up to stay at Ice Angels, Borovets. Initial thoughts on arrival were not good after having to walk through another hotel with luggage, then up a street to get to the Ice Angels. This is becasue there is no road access for the bus to drop you off directly to the door. However after check in we were pleased with the hotel & the room which was clean and spacious - two single beds, mini bar & both a bath & shower!! TV had variety of music channels & Sky News. After skiing we found that this hotel was the most convenient of them all - being able to ski right to the door (IF you re lucky enough to have enough snow!) The hotel over looks the two main slopes at the bottom of the mountain & was ideal. Our only gripe with our stay would be the food - breakfast was OK (?) with cheap cornflakes, toast & egg's available, lunch of course was on the mountain - which be warned is VERY pricey with poor food. Example £4 for VERY small cold portion of chips, £2plus for a mars bar. Evening meals back in the hotel were also poor. There was a selection of salad / bread on a buffet style table, with a choice of 3 plates on show (labelled 1,2 & 3) for you to choose from. The choices were Pork & chips, Chicken & Chips or Pork & small potatoes. The chicken was pink & all food luke warm or cold that had clearly been prepared the day before & simply re-heated. Although we we lucky enought not to have any problems with upset stomaches this could be due to the fact we ate very little there. We did find a lovely place to eat which was very reasonably priced at the bottom of the street (near the gondala) taking a left to walk up the hill - it had a large parasol outside. Not sure of the name - sorry - but they did fantastic freshly cooked food inc Shepherds pie, pizza's pasta's etc etc. In summary we think the hotel was great in location, food was very poor & the resort as a whole is FAR too expensive for what they provide. Next time we will be spending a little extra to go to a well developed ski resort - we feel this will be worth the extra to get better facilites. Bulgaria has quadroupled in price since our first year however has not updated its facilities in line with this. We have never written on this type of feedback site before however as there is nothing on here for Ice Angels we would have benefitted from some feedback before we booked. Happy Holidays!!! Stayed here for new years 2007/8. Found the hotel very nice. Lovely rooms and great location at foot of slope. However, food wasn't great but there were a few good restaurants close by and they were very reasonable.

We adrove in for a few days without booking a hotel, this looked great but was full. We did return one afternoon for a bite to eat and drinks...I have never experienced such rude and unhelpful staff anywhere in Bulgaria (and we have travelled Bulgaria quite well)...I am just glad it was booked!

Having sampled the delights of the Rila Hotel in February (2006) our mission was to find a hotel that was at least habitable. I'm sure there are many hotels that meet this basic criteria (Rila not being one of them) but Ice Angels stood out as the newest and brightest contender for comfortable, thoughtful and perfectly placed accommodation in Borovets. The manager kindly showed us around the fab rooms and we instantly decided this was the place for us in 2007. The resort was great and we thought very child friendly (my two 14 year old boys loved it) did'nt need any other entertaining as we were all Kn******d after each days ski/boarding, so a trip to a local restaurant (very cheap) and most of them very good was all we could muster before falling into our pits (pits describes the beds at Rila perfectly!). So here's looking forward to next years skiing, in a great resort and hopefully a room in a great hotel. p.s. the facilities in the hotel look brilliant and the view (slope side of course) is great day or night.

I have just come back from a stay in the Ice Angels Hotel - absolutely brilliant, the staff are amongst some of the most helpful people I have ever come across and cannot do enough for you. Let me start with the rooms, they are lovely, spacious and warm and have a rather elegant touch to them. The bathroom was big and finished to a high standard and there was always plenty of hot water for that long soak at the end of the day in the bath. Food was great and let me answer Maria's comments (3rd March) there was fried eggs and bacon every morning (in the metal heated containers on the right of the main table), also Ham, various Cheeses and cereals which was more than enough choice for us and definitely not geared towards the Germans as I hate German food. Bar area was smallish but adequate as it was always fully staffed and as in the whole of Borovets it was cheap to say the least. The skiing was a tad disappointing as if the wind gets too strong at the top of the mountain they shut the gondola and this makes the resort extremely busy as it halves the amount of runs available and doubles the amount of people on them making the lifts very busy, having said that if you are a beginner then you wouldn't be up that high anyway and would still be able to enjoy the lower slopes. Evenings are good fun with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from and all run various happy hours which makes an already cheap resort even cheaper (Black Tiger happy hour works out at 50p for a Gin and Tonic). All in all an excellent hotel, we had a lovely holiday and would go back again without hesitation.

The hotel is clean and well positioned. The food is good but very limited, it is geared towards germans, it is ok if you like frankfurters, salami, tomatoes, cucumber and cheese for breakfast, but no bacon and egg in sight. The resort is good for skiing but not alot to do if you have children.

Just come back from a fantastic holiday in Borovets, no other holiday has come close to this one for fun and excitement. Danny our ski instructor was brilliant, very patient as no one could hardly stand up on ther skis on the first two days. Stayed in the Rila hotel which was warm and clean, food a bit dodgy. If you want a holiday where you want to experience exhausting physical fatigue, bruises and sore feet from the ski boots, however getting a great sun tan, laughing non stop, make new friends and experiencing the thrill of finally mastering ( I think) your skis then this is the holiday for you. Can't wait to go back next year.xxx
