The FIS Congress approved the starts of the World Cup in Bansko in 2009 Bulgaria officially received the privilege to host a round of the FIS World Cup Downhill race for women for the next racing season 2008/2009. The decision was taken on an official meeting of FIS in Cape Town in South Africa. Bansko will welcome the best downhill racers on 28th February (downhill) and 1st March 2009. Bansko received an excellent assessment for the rounds of the European Cup, which were held in the resort last season. This is a historic decision for the Bulgarian ski sport, as the country will host rounds of the World Cup for women in Bansko for the first time. The Bulgarian delegation in Cape Town is lead by the head of the Bulgarian Ski Federation Mr. Tseko Minev.

This is fantastic and well deserved news for Bansko! Even with the current boom in development, Bansko remains a real gem with a great snow record and an increasingly impressive level of amenities.
