Location: Lion Hotel in Bansko is situated just 5 minutes walk from the gondola lift in Bansko.
Accommodation: Lion Hotel offers 190 rooms of different category: single rooms, double rooms, studios and luxurious apartments. Each guest room features private bathroom with a bathtub and hairdryer, TV, radio, mini bar and telephone.
The hotel features 167 double rooms, 80 of which are with a double, king-size bed (2x2 m), and the rest of the rooms are with twin beds (1x2 m). All rooms are equipped with extensible beds. The extensible beds are smaller in the rooms with a balcony, and bigger in the rooms without a balcony.The hotel also features double rooms, specially equipped for challenged guests.
There are 16 Family rooms in the hotel. This type of room is quite large, with a big double, king-size bed, dressing table with a mirror, a sofa, table with chairs. There’s also a small kitchenette, equipped with a dining table, microwave oven and a refrigerator. The bath-room is spacious, with a bath-tub. The family rooms are suitable for families with one or two children, or for three adults.
There are 8 apartments in the hotel, they consist of two premises. In the bigger one there are two twin beds, dressing table, sofa and a kitchenette with a dining table. In the second room there’s a big king-size bed, dressing table and night-tables.

We have been the guests of the Lion Hotel for the past three years and one problem I have is that we always get rooms at the top floor, somewhat cramped and with no balcony. This year we held the car in the underground garage and we had to wait for quite a bit for someone at the reception to come and open the garage door and then again there was nobody to open the barrier at the exit.

1. Unfortunately 2 of the four persons for which I reserved an apartment couldn't come in the last moment, but no solution could be found by hotel staff. In fact, the receptionist said NO without any questios, telling me that I should speak with the agency and she cannot do anything.
2. Most of hotel staff is rude, doesn't smile at all .. typically balkan attitude.
3. Considering that this was the third time I spend my ski vacation in Bansko, I remarked there was a worsening of services overall, especially the food in the restaurant. The breakfast was much worse than in 2010, while dinner was similar.
4. Even if the costs are lower than in other countries, this was my last ski vacation in Bulgaria; the probability to change my mind is very low, because I'm sick of bad balkan attitude towards the clients.

Emails sent when the your office is closed need to be acknowledged when the office does then open or an out of office message sent to say please email during office hours i.e. the service I got during office hours was superb but my initial emails sent at a weekend & one evening were not replied to so I almost gave up (I can't always email during the day).

Ski holiday end of Jan 2011. Have been to the Borovets on 2 other ski holidays but stayed at a different hotel. The Lion is slightly on the edge of of the resort, but is within walking distance on the way back to the hotel as it is down hill. Taxi far is 10 levs, but be careful we were charged 15 by one taxi, so ask first. Horse drawn carriage is 10 levs. The hotel is really friendly and the staff can,t do enough for you and will enjoy the banter. Rooms are very clean and warm and away from the main area of the hotel. Swimming pool fab and really warm, but gets busy. The hotel is very hot so take cool clothes for indoors. Food was good for bulgarian standards and it was hot most of the time. Be careful with the cost of wine it's not cheap, a bottle is about 25 levs (£12) they do have some deals like 3 glasses for 2 for 10 levs (£5) which is definately worth it. these offers are on the dining table info. Down side there was a party of school children (30 in all from Bulgaria) very noisy, but everyone complained and the hotel dealt with it very quickly along with the Nielson rep and it was sorted. Snow conditions were variable as they had not had much snow before we arrived, we were lucky though it snowed quite a bit while we were there, but lots of runs not open. We were a group of 6 with 4 beginners who all had a fantastic holiday and said they would go again.

The water in the pool was very cold, some children even got a flu, we told them, but they didn't care at all !...

We visited the Lion Hotel Borovets in December 2010. The hotel is lovely, not too many rooms but lovely rooms and linen, facilities are fabulous (spa, treatments, swimming pool et) and food was excellent (remember that according to Bulgarian culture means they eat warm not hot food which is considered bac for you). Would definitely go back. Spent a lovely holiday here. Try even a small bit of the language and you'll really find out how warm and friendly the Bulgarians are. CMortimer

Great Hotel, stayed here in January 2010 had a few reservations from reading other reviews as im a resonably experienced boarder/skier and have been on many Ski/boarding hols, this hotel turned out to be one of the best weve stayed in, freindly staff and atmosphere in the bar, pool area a little bit cold (Towels and robes provided) and gym aircon not working, the Bar is the hottest place youve ever sat in so take some shorts and t-shirt if your planning a night in the hotel, im really picking bad bits out of what was a great week, shuttle bus to a from centre was good taking about 5 mins max, please speak to people how you would like to spoken to back ive read so many reviews about how rude people are in resort and hotels but if you are polite then you will get the same in return, yes it is Bulgaria they are more abrubt than uk but thats how it is, they are not being nasty. The food in hotel was good always hot and good range, if you think your going to get Fish fingers, bangers and mash English brekfast then stick to Magaluf, you get a good range of european cuisine which maybe if you tried it you will like it, personnaly i liked it all (Although Feta Cheese for brekfast is a bit much) . Rooms were clean maid service everyday with clean towels. Wifi in bar area. I think this is the best hotel in Borovets based on the reports we had from other people in other hotels, Hope ive helped.

Hi just got back from my stay at the Lion Hotel , Bansko. We had a bad time in the hotel, mainly because we had a man walk into the room with a key from the front desk. This was at 1.30 a.m. my wife was so frightened she could not go back to sleep, and we had to travel that day. In the morning we told the girl at the front desk, but she was not very sympathetic.

Myself and Boyfriend are just back from a skiing holiday in Bansko, and I cannot recommend it enough! We stayed in the Lion Hotel. The hotel is very close to the main street and Gondela.. a 5 minute walk. It is a modern hotel with swiming pool, sauna etc.. The rooms are of a very good standard, very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are friendly and helpful- most of them, a few dont have great English and keep to themselves.. but I dont think they were being rude. The food was good for a buffet.. plenty choice for everyone, however it got a bit boaring towards the end of the week. From speaking to others staying in different hotels, they were of the same opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone- We will be going back again!

I have just arrived home from a week's stay at the Hotel Lion. My family and I had a wonderful week, the hotel was very friendly, clean and the food was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff, we will certainly stay at this hotel again. Great value for money.

Having just arrived back yesterday(14/02)I was pleasantly suprised about the standard of the hotel.The rooms were clean and adequate as we spent a lot of time sleeping inthem after being worn out skiing.The food was quite hot(we was told it would be lukewarm)and varied.Breakfast cereals were a bit limited. My daugther who is vegetarian had hardly any choice and was very poor.Hotel is nicely situated just outside the main town and the free shuttle bus is quite frequent.The rooms get too hot at night as there is no proper air con. but we overcame this by opening a window which sufficed.The swimming pool could have done to be a bit warmer .This was our first holiday in Bulgaria (6Adults)and we would recommend this Hotel.

I have been to bulgaria 3 times now skiing bansko twice. I thought the Hotel Lion was everyhting that you needed. The rooms were clean, spacious and warm. The food had quite a good choice and was warm which does not normally happen in hotels in Bulgaria. The only down side was the pool was very cold so did not use that at all. It is close enough to the gondola to walk but has frequent buses to take you. The skiing is great just dont expect much from the town. I think Bansko and the Lion hotel is great value for money
